What we have here is an actual Mercedes 408 Firetruck I had imported from Germany about 8 years ago. Is is the forerunner of the contemporary Mercedes/ Dodge Sprinter, but slightly larger. It has a tiny 4 cylinder Mercedes 2.4L gasoline engine and a 4 speed manual transmission. It has a full ton (maybe ton and a half?) suspension. It has four full doors, is a crew cab, then has large rear 'gullwing' doors that flip up and open to provide awnings on both sides of the vehicle in the rear. I gutted all the fire equipment that was in the back to make it an empty space, and had planned on installing the interior of a Westfalia in the back to make a neat-o camper. All the remaining fire equipment works: The main water pump on the front is driven from the front of the engine and the lights and sirens work as well. I had a hitch installed with standard receiver so I can tow trailers/ cars / et cetera. Despite it's size and weight, it is geared so low it can zip along, even fully loaded .... to about 45 MPH. On the freeway, it tops out at about 55MPH , MAXIMUM. Not entirely pleasant if you need to get someplace in a hurry, but OH BOY will you ever get a lot of thumbs up while people pass you!
This would make an ideal camper , or better yet - How about a FOOD CART? You can not go anywhere without being nearly-molested and drilled for information about where it came from, what it is, can you turn on the siren, so on and so forth, so you may as well sell snacks and turn a profit at the same time. I GUARANTEE you will not find another one of these in town. Parts are easy to come by.
This van / bus has only 37,000 KM on it, which is 22,900 miles - It is quite frankly, like a new car. Tires are new. (Duallies in back) Easy to drive. Entire roof is diamond plated so you can go on top and sunbathe, imbibe, bird watch, people watch, pick things out of trees, or just feel really tall.
In short, this is a rare opportunity to own not only your own firetruck, but a Mercedes camper/ van/ truck/ bus with almost no miles on it whatsoever. It will get more attention than a gaggle of baby French Bulldogs and make more friends than a basket of free kittens. I am selling this because I need money, so please no trades. Unless it is for a Pinzgauer. Or project G-class. Or an iphone. $11,000 OBO.
Email or call for anymore information/ to see. BUT PLEASE, I am very busy, and unfortunately do not have time to show you the truck just for sport and conversation, so please be an actual potential buyer in you want to come over and see it. Thanks! 503-505-7113
